VAST Data has announced the addition of Block storage functionality to its AI data platform, VAST DataStore. The update, available next month, will introduce Block storage functionality, completing its vision for the VAST DataStore as a multiprotocol storage platform.
The platform integrates storage, databases, and virtualized compute services into a single AI operating system. This solution serves as the only one on the market capable of scaling parallel data access performance for all data types—file, object, block, table, and streaming data. With all data accessible through one system, organizations can manage all workloads within a unified architecture, optimizing performance, scalability, and cost efficiency. This facilitates faster insights and smoother AI adoption.
Gartner notes that multiprotocol storage platforms, like VAST’s, are designed to support various storage access protocols, ensuring compatibility with diverse IT environments and applications.
The addition of block storage marks a significant advancement for large enterprises by consolidating siloed infrastructure into one platform. It now includes a suite of enterprise data services, such as snapshots, multi-tenancy, QoS, encryption, and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), providing organizations with enhanced data management capabilities.
“With these new features, we’re eliminating data silos and enabling organizations to accelerate AI and analytics initiatives for faster, more accurate decisions and data-driven growth,” said Aaron Chaisson, Vice President of Product & Solutions Marketing at VAST Data.
The platform also integrates seamlessly with virtualization solutions such as VMware and Hyper-V, allowing IT teams to isolate workloads, guarantee performance, and simplify resource management in large-scale virtualized environments.
Additionally, VAST Data consolidates hybrid workloads into a single storage architecture, reducing complexity, operational overhead, and improving provisioning efficiency. The Boot from SAN capability streamlines server deployment, improves disaster recovery, and ensures consistent performance across IT environments.
