The UAE authorities are set to implement advanced digital technology to detect counterfeit products and enhance cross-border cooperation in the fight against fraud. This initiative will also lead to the development of AI-driven enforcement mechanisms and promote collaboration to address the evolving challenges in global trade.

These key points were discussed during a forum on consumer rights and expanding national industries, which was organized by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.

The meeting concluded with several recommendations aimed at improving the market system. The authorities plan to tighten administrative sanctions on those who violate commercial fraud laws. Additionally, they will establish advanced quality control centers to ensure the authenticity of products and expand the use of digital solutions for real-time monitoring of supply chains. Public awareness campaigns will also be launched to help consumers recognize counterfeit goods.

Discussions also focused on important national legislation, specifically Federal Decree-Law No. (42) of 2023 on Combating Commercial Fraud and Federal Law No. (15) of 2020 on Consumer Protection. These laws provide the legal framework necessary for promoting sustainable development, ensuring fair market practices, and protecting consumer rights.

Commercial fraud can take various forms, such as fraud related to the product’s identity, which involves altering its nature, type, composition, essential characteristics, or source. It can also involve fraud in quantity, such as manipulating weight, volume, size, number, capacity, or standard. Another form is fraud or attempted fraud, which consists of selling, displaying, or possessing counterfeit goods with the intention of trading them.

An official statement emphasized, “Commercial fraud and the trade of counterfeit goods pose serious threats to the national economy, consumer health and safety, and intellectual property rights, whether those of individuals or businesses.”
